Vgenio Mastoridi

Eugenia - Vgenio Mastoridis was the first woman in Greece to dive. Her achievement was even greater because at that time she was pregnant.

In 1863, Fotis Mastoridis from Symi island, presented the scuba diving method in the port of Symi. His wife Eugenia or Vgenio, in order to gain courage for the divers who until then dived naked, wore the diving suit - hence the name "dress" - and dived into the harbor of Symi up to 15 meters.

On the occasion of this historic moment and to honor her and as well the great diver Stathis Hatzis, we will organize in July 2024 the world's first women's free diving competition in Symi island.
